Cane weaving:
Hand woven cane replacement in the traditional hexagonal weave (or a pattern based on it) costs from $2.50 per frame hole ($2.75 per hole for superfine or carriage fine projects). For projects exceeding 100 holes the base charge is $2.75 per frame hole ($3.00 for superfine or carriage fine cane). Blind caning, double sided caning, sunburst, close weaving, medallions, and other difficult and time-consuming specialty weaves will be evaluated and priced individually.
Please note that I am unable to offer cane tinting at this time due to space and ventilation limitations.
Paper rush/Danish cord weaving:
Pricing for paper rush/Danish cord weaving is determined by the size of the seat. The cost may be estimated by measuring diagonally (from corner to corner) the area of the seat occupied by cord. The base price is $5.20/cm (or $13/inch). Additional charges will apply when it is necessary to replace or install L-hooks for Danish cord/basket weaving projects. Double sided, double railed, wraparound, and and Danish cord projects in which hooks cannot be used will need to be evaluated and priced individually.
Shellacking of paper rush/Danish cord projects is $30.
Specialty materials such as seagrass, natural rush, wheat wrapped seagrass, etc. will be priced individually according to price/availability of materials.
I am also interested in rush weaving patterns not typically seen in North America- if you are interested in exploring different weaves for your chair, I am happy to come up with some options.
Rawhide weaving:
Prices vary widely, depending on complexity of the project and the materials used. The chair pictured in the gallery has a fairly large seat (approximately 43 cm x 43 cm) and would cost $300 at the present time (summer 2024).
Minor frame repairs such as regluing and hole reinforcement are $40/hour of shop time, with a minimum of $20 for any frame repair.
The estimated price will not be final until the piece has been examined, and a full written estimate will be given before work commences. A 50% deposit (e-transfer or cash) is required before I begin work on your project, the balance will be paid upon completion. I can also provide a digital photographic record of the work if desired.
If you are unable to drop off/pick up your piece, pick up and delivery by a third party may be arranged. If you are located within Toronto (sorry, not the GTA!) I may be able to visit you to examine your piece in order to provide an estimate.
